Nature Relations:
design places, design practices, design senses

“NATURE RELATIONS explores design and nature relations. It includes light, sensory and vicarious experiences that deepen the relationship between design and nature. Its focus is a body of practices of design and nature that examine nature relations as a form of inquiry for designers and that build understanding and terminology along the way. It draws on some of the workings and findings of the Nature Relations Platform pilot project and its experiments around key themes of design and nature.”

Pieces of Walking

This was a project conducted during my time in the MDes program at Emily Carr. It was a way to learn about different ways to conduct research and to pay attention to the environment around me. Pieces of Walking culminated in a designed journal that compiles my walks and reflections but that also invites people to take up this practice of attention for themselves. You can learn more about this project here.

Diminuendo

Diminuendo is a student-run literary and arts magazine at Loyola University. As chair of the Technology and Design Committee, I led and participated in designing the spreads for Diminuendo’s Fall 2020 issue.

The images show the spreads I designed for the staff list, the letter from the editors, and the table of contents. The letter copy is by Janet Perez and Sarah Denicolo.

The cover and back cover image, titled I used to dream, is one of the photographs I submitted to the magazine and was voted in anonymously by the general staff members.

Book Covers

The following book covers were designed as exercises to continue to refine my book cover designs.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Other People’s Houses by Abbi Waxman
